Before Forks:
Nick was born on December 31, 1987, in Somerset, New Jersey. He was born and raised in that town and grew up next door to Alik Scott. He and Alik became friends when Nick was seven. It was his birthday and his party had been a dud. He was sitting out on his front walk, his head in his hands, and close to tears. A boy came up and asked him why he was sad. He told the kid why and then Alik sat down next to him. He apologized and asked if Nick wanted to be his best friend. Alik was only five, but Nick agreed. He didn’t mind hanging out with kids younger than him and he found out that even with a two-year age difference, they had a lot in common.
Nick had great parents and lived a pretty happy life for most of his years. But, when he was eleven, his mother was killed one night. She had been in a bad area of their town and had been mugged. The mugger shot her and left her for dead. She died a few hours later and Nick was devastated. He had loved his mother and was the biggest momma’s boy you could meet. Everyone made fun of him for it, except for Alik. Alik understood because he was the same way with his mother. He sympathized with his friend and tried to help him through.
At this time, Nick started to take a big interest in music. It was a big escape for him and the only way he could keep from thinking about his life. Not only had he lost his mother, but also he was afraid that his father would soon follow. His father had become depressed and never paid attention to him anymore. Nick was pretty much left to himself. Because of that, he was never home. He spent all his time next door with Alik and his family. It was before Alik’s family started to spiral down and Nick thought that they had the perfect family. He wanted to be apart of it, but never expressed those wishes.
He and Alik only became closer friends as Nick tried to escape his life and from spiraling down into the same depression that his father had. He and Alik hung out everyday and on weekends as well. They would do the normal stuff that boys do: scope out girls, listen to music, play with their music, or just hang out and play video games. They became like brothers and were inseparable. Even when Nick’s father died, they stayed close. Nick ended up having to move across town with his Aunt, but he was still at Alik’s house constantly. There were times when he would stay over there for days or weeks at a time because he loved it more than his Aunt’s house.
But soon, Nick and Alik started to drift apart a bit. Nick took a bigger interest in girls because he was now sixteen and had those raging hormones. He was always hanging out with some girl or another and soon lost his virginity to a girl two years older than him. After that, he was hanging around girls more and more and less around his childhood friend. He hadn’t completely forgot about Alik though. They still hung out, just not as much.
This was also the time that Alik’s father started to beat up on him. Nick tried to be there for him as much as possible, but it was hard. Alik was never allowed to have people over or go anywhere anymore. His father was getting stricter and stricter, leaving Nick and Alik both friendless. Nick still got to talk to his friend at school, and they hung out when Alik’s father wasn’t home, or Alik could sneak out to meet Nick somewhere.
A couple years later, Nick was able to move out of his Aunt’s house and did so as soon as possible. He tried to get Alik to come and live with him, to keep him away from his father, but Alik didn’t want to leave his mother alone. Nick understood because if it had been him, he wouldn’t have left his mother alone either. He still was able to get Alik to be there sometimes and made sure that Alik’s father didn’t know where he lived so that he could retreat there if he needed.
Another few years passed and their relationship stayed the same as it had been. They hung out and spoke when they could. They tried to stay friends as long as possible and succeeded. It was just hard for them to be as close as they were before. They were no longer like brothers, just good friends, though they still thought of one another as their brother. At this time, Alik’s father had gotten out of control and Nick didn’t know anything about how bad it was. He was clueless as to what his best friend was going through and that caused them to drift a bit farther apart.
Then, one night, Nick got a knock on his door. It was Alik and he looked like hell. Nick heard all about how Alik’s father had killed his mother and tried to kill him as well. Alik had yet to go to the hospital and was bleeding from his injuries. Nick made sure he got there and stayed with him until he knew what was wrong. He then told Alik that he could stay with him and Alik took up his offer. Nick was glad and helped Alik to move in a few weeks later.
Nick and Alik became closer again and hung out more. They were once again like brothers, but Alik was having too hard a time living in New Jersey. He was ridiculed and judged by everyone in town because of what his father had done. Nick knew what was going on so when Alik told him that he had to get away, he helped him to do so. Nick didn’t know where exactly Alik was going though, just that he was headed for the West Coast. Nick asked Alik where, but wasn’t told because Alik didn’t want anyone to find him, not even his best friend.
Nick was saddened by loss once again when Alik left. He had been his best friend and the only brother and family he’d had. He tried to find him sometime after, but never could. He just moved on and lived his life as if nothing had ever happened and Alik had never existed. It was easier than thinking that he’d lost the rest of his family.
A few weeks ago, Nick saw Alik again. They both ended up in New York for basic fire training. They were both more than surprised and happy to see each other again. They got to talking and it seemed just like old times. Nick was glad to hear that Alik had been able to turn his life around by moving. He wondered if getting out of New Jersey would help him to get a better life as well. He didn’t know, and didn’t think on it much either until Alik was getting ready to leave again.
Alik had told him before he left where he lived now and that he should come visit sometime. Nick said he’d think about it and they parted again. Nick went back to New Jersey and thought about his life. He didn’t like it as much as he had. He wanted to start somewhere new and live his life the way he wanted to live it. He decided to take Alik up on his offer. He went to go visit him in Forks, Washington for a few days. He then decided that he liked it and wanted to make the visit permanent. So, he moved here to Forks and has resided here for about three and a half years.
Since Moving to Forks:
In that time, his best friend, Alik, has moved. Nick contemplated moving as well because his friend was the whole reason he came to Forks, but he had begun a relationship with a girl named Abigail and he was really starting to like her. He was thinking of trying to have a real relationship with the girl, but a bad turn of events caused her to flee town before they could move any farther along. Still, he stayed, not yet knowing what to do.
Not long after that, he began to have a fling with Emelina Zediker. They became good friends and had a very open relationship for a while. She had moved in with him after a fire destroyed her house and not even a month later, she announced that she was pregnant with his child. Nick freaked out and tried to pin the kid on someone else. When Emelina told him that it couldn't be anyone else's he left.
He wasn't fit to raise a child. He was still a kid himself and only twenty-one. He didn't want a child, so he thought. He drove around town in an angry way. It took him a while, but he realized that he wouldn't mind having a child, especially from Emelina. It was the beginning of his having feeling for the girl. He was on his way back to her when he got into a horrible car accident. He totaled his car and was left fighting for his life.
Nick's feelings for Emelina only grew stronger and they had a more closed relationship, dating exclusively after he had gotten jealous of some other guy that was hitting on her. They dated for only about a month before they ended up being married. The marriage was not your typical marriage though. They were on a vacation in Las Vegas and got a bit too drunk one night, leading them to the alter.
The next morning, Emelina left because she walked in on another woman trying to get Nick into bed with her. He tried to explain that it wasn't what it looked like and that he loved Emelina. That just made her. He thought it would help because it was the truth, but she left anyway.
He returned here to Forks and fell into a depression. For the first time in his life, he really loved someone and they didn’t love him back. It cut him deeply and with his depression, he fell back into the use of drugs. It only took him days to get addicted again and soon he was shooting up every few hours. It did the job he wanted it to. It made him forget about Emelina for a while and the heartbreak she had caused him.
A few weeks later, Emelina came back and revealed that Nick’s love was mutual and that she wanted to be married to him. Nick wanted to stay married as well, though he knew it was going to be hard. He loved her enough that he would fight for their marriage, not matter what it took. Emelina was the first girl he had ever really cared about and loved. To Nick, that meant everything and made her better than anyone else. She had been able to break him down and steal his heart the way no other could.
Then, Emelina found out about the drugs and told Nick that it was either them or her. So, naturally, he picked her. How could he not? Losing her was the whole reason he had began to use drugs again in the first place. Now that he had her back, there was no reason for him to be using them except that he was addicted and was still a bit afraid of her leaving. He knew Emelina and thought that at the first sign of trouble, she would leave him again. But she assured him that it wouldn't happen because she loved him just as much as he loved her. She helped him to stop using the drugs and get them back to their old selves again, the people they were before all of this.
Very soon after that, Emelina ended up pregnant and Nick couldn’t have been happier. He never thought he’d be a good father, but when Emelina told him, he was thrilled. They had many struggles along the path of Emelina’s pregnancy, but the worst was at the end. Just as Emelina was about to give birth, she went into shock and she and the baby wouldn’t be able to live. So, Nick made the hard decision to kill the baby, a boy to be named Ryan Jonathan, and save his wife.
After that, things were very strained between the young couple. Nick blamed himself for their son's death and Emelina went into a state of depression that made her zombie like. It took them about a month to get back to normal and once they did, they renewed their vows and had a real wedding, something that was better and more real than their drunken Vegas marriage. Though for Nick, nothing could replace that because if it wasn't for that drunken Vegas night, they wouldn't be where they were, married and in love. They then took a long honeymoon, something to bring them back together and to act as two honeymonns since they never had a honeymoon the first time around.
Just as their honeymoon was coming to a close, Emelina found that, again, she was pregnant. Neither knew what to think of the news after she had already lost two children, but as before, they fell in love with the idea and found that she was expecting twins this time around. The thought of having two babies scared the crap out of Nick, but he tried his best to keep it hidden, along with his fears that again their children would be lost. He wanted so much for them to finally be able to have children and have a family, but that was apparently too much to ask for.
A little over eight months later, tragedy struck. Emelina went into labor a few weeks early as she had the last time and to Nick, it felt like déjà vu. But this time, he couldn’t save his wife. She bore fraternal twins before she went into shock and began to bleed out to the point of death, or so everyone thought. Mysteriously, her body vanished from the hospital, something that made Nick feel as if his wife had never existed.
If it weren’t for the children she had blessed him with, he wouldn’t have even been sure it was all real, Emelina, their love, their marriage. But the babies were there. One boy, named Jonathan Nicholas, a name he and Emelina had picked out long before the babies were born in honor of himself and the first child they lost, and a girl that Nick named Emelina Madison. The middle name came from a name that Emelina had picked long ago and he had named her after the child’s mother because she looked so much like his late wife and with the way that the baby seemed to glare at him the first time he held her, he knew she was going to be just like her mother.
Though the body was never found, Nick made sure there was a small service for Emelina and that stone was put in the ground as a memorial of her. He couldn’t even fathom not having it there because he wanted that place to go to where he would be able to be with his wife, in a sense. All of this, and dealing with having two newborn children cause Nick to fall into a small depression.
In the past year since his children were born, he has gotten a part time job and is going back to school to try and make something of himself. He has hired a live in nanny, of sorts, to watch over the children while he worked and went to school. The twins have grown quite considerably since their birth and Nick has come to find that he was right about them. Jonathan is a mixture in both attitude and appearances of both Nick and Emelina, but baby Emelina is purely her mother. She’s the spitting image of her and already has the same stubborn, pig headed attitude that made Nick fall in love with his wife.[/center]
