Before Forks:
Dean was the second in line of Alexander and Bertha’s four children, but he always acted as the oldest, especially after his older brother died at the young age of twelve, along with his mother. Dean was eleven at the time and took the loss pretty hard. His brother was his best friend and his confident and his mother had been the one to take care of the house and everything else. He felt kind of alone after Benjamin and Bertha’s deaths, but there was nothing he could do to bring his lost family back.
So, he just cared for his younger sisters, Brigitta and Dorothea. They were his responsibility now and no one else’s. He cared for them as if they were the most important things, always putting them in front of himself. They were what mattered, nothing else. He had no job at this point. He was one of the lucky few that came from a family of wealth. His father worked and made good money so that Dean could stay home and raise his baby sisters. They were both at an age that was too young to care for themselves and he did it happily. He was glad to make his contribution to the world and his family, no matter how small.
But, five years later, when Dean was sixteen and his sister Brigitta was thirteen and well able to care for the household and family, he decided that he wanted to do something with his life. So, he went to work for his father and made an honest man of himself. He loved the work and took pride in knowing that he had done a good day’s labor and been able to contribute more for his sisters. He was a strange one; liking to work and he didn’t have any problems doing the jobs that others seemed to hate. To him, work was work and it made a man who he was. It defined you.
At this same time, he had begun to see a beautiful girl who came into his father’s office all the time. She was the messenger for her father, to his. She would always stop in and see him, even bring him home baked goods at times. He quickly became smitten with the girl though she was no older than his sister, Brigitta. She was barely fourteen, but he didn’t care. Within two months time, he had asked for, and been granted, her hand in marriage. He couldn’t have been happier, he thought.
But, he was wrong. He could be happier, and was. Six months later, Michelle announced that she was pregnant with their first child. Dean was overjoyed and couldn’t wait for the arrival of their child. He hoped and prayed that he would be blessed with a son, someone that he could teach about the world and take out to work with him. Someone that he could raise to be a great man, an honest man. And, he was blessed with that son eight months later. He was given the name Michael Robert after both his and Michelle’s father. It was a tradition in German culture that every son be named after their parents’ fathers and though Michelle was full American, Dean’s parents had emigrated from Germany and he carried his traditions strongly.
Things could not have been better for Michelle, Dean, and Michael, until again, they were blessed with a child. Michelle was pregnant and one short year after Michael was born, they were blessed with a daughter, a girl that they named Evelyn Michelle Jamison. Things were perfect for the next year or so, but then, Dean was drafted and shipped off to war.
During the war, he made many a great friend. Everyone was great and he didn’t find it near as bad as everyone said that it would be, but he missed home something terrible. He wanted to be back with his wife and his children. It broke his heart to be away for so long. And soon, the heartbreak worsened. He was notified my letter, that his wife had gotten very sick and passed away. The news devastated far more than anything else ever had. He would never again see his beautiful wife, the mother of his children.
That only made Dean work harder in the war. They were picking a few people that were doing above and beyond to be relieved and able to go home. Dean needed to get back to his children and he did everything he could to do so. He was finally granted his leave. He would serve one more full day in the field and then be on a boat back home.
But Dean never made it that far. One his last day in the field, a friend of his was hit and went down. Dean panicked and raced to help his dearest friend. That was a bad mistake on his part, but he was too kind and compassionate not to. It was in his nature to do everything he could to help people and he didn’t want the poor guy to suffer. So, he helped him until the end of his life, but it cost Dean his life as well. Just as he was about to return stand and return to the front line, a bullet hit his chest, knocking him to the ground.
He lay there in agony, waiting for death to come, but it seemed to be taking forever. Soon, he felt a full fire through his body. It was as if he’d been lit on fire and was being burnt alive, but it was coming from within and not on the surface. He didn’t understand, just knew that it hurt. Then, all went black. He woke a few days later and didn’t know where he was.
A woman, a nurse that he remembered helping him once before when he had gotten hurt was sitting beside him. She looked upon him and smiled and before he was able to ask what had happened, she explained. She told him of what she was and what she had turned him into. When he asked why, she simply stated that it was because she was in love with him and hoped that he would be her mate and they could live out eternity together. But, when Dean refused her, she went crazy. She began to attack him and the newborn in him took over. He fought back and ended up killing the young vampiress. Then, his thirst took over and he went on a killing spree, not knowing that there was a purer way of his immortality.
A few years later, he came across a few vegetarian vampires and they explained the life to him. He didn’t want any part of it at first because he had found such satisfaction in taking the blood of humans, but they talked him into it. In a way, they helped him to remember the kind of man that he used to be, though they had never known him. He was disappointed in himself for the way he had been living for the past ten years or so. He wanted to change and did. He became a vegetarian and hasn’t slipped since that day.
He spent his life as a nomad after that, not liking to stay in one spot very long. He liked to be more carefree and just live his immortality. But, he soon came to Forks and thought that it might be a nice place to stay for a while. He decided to give it a try and found himself a nice house there, for human appearances, of course.
After Forks:
In his first few days in Forks, Dean was walking through the forest when he smelt the most amazing scent that his vampire nose had ever taken in. He could barely stand to be around the scent, but he wanted to know where it came from. So, he followed it until he came upon a young, Gabriella Strang. Even at only eighteen, she was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen in his eighty-five years.
He spoke to the girl and was as friendly as possible. It took all his control not to kill her, but he couldn’t imagine being without her scent so he made himself keep his control. He also schemed up a plan so that he could see her again and again until he gained her trust enough that they could be friends, or more.
It didn’t take long for a relationship to begin to form between the two. Dean quickly fell in love with the human girl. He told her twice before she ever said anything back to him and he was okay with that. He understood that she didn’t love him because she had just had her heartbroken not long before they began to be together. But, he was always honest with her and wanted his feelings to be known.
When she finally did let her feelings for him be voiced, Dean could tell that they were not those of his own. He over reacted about that fact and it caused them to fight. He soon realized that she was still too in love with her ex and that they couldn’t be together. So, he ended their small relationship and left her house that day. It hurt him to do so, but he felt as if he had no other choice. He realized days later how wrong he had been and he felt like an not a very nice person. He had hurt her, something he promised not to do.
He decided to leave though. He couldn’t stay in Forks, not like this. He was too in love with Gabriella to chance seeing her with someone else or to just see her alone. He wanted to be with her and he was childish. Since he couldn’t get his way, he would leave. He was going to join the Iraqi war. He was set to deploy on New Years Day, but he was drug to a party by friends first, a party that Gabriella also happened to be at.
They ended up dancing and then spending some alone time together. That ended in them being together again for one last night and day. They spent the entire time, from when the clock struck midnight to signal the New Year until when Dean had to board his plane, together. Then, Dean left, off to war with no intention of coming back, but that changed.
He received a letter from Gabriella, something that he had hoped for everyday that he was gone, but didn’t really expect to get. But, he did and it confused him. There were many things in the letter that he didn’t understand, but the one thing that was clear was that Gabriella truly did love him. So, he decided to go back. He wanted to be with her and hated that they weren’t together. So, if she’d take him back, he was there to stay.[/center]
